2nd Year Scholar
I plan on graduating from Lynchburg College with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish. I also plan on going to seminary after I graduate to obtain my M.Div. Through a series of events this year, I feel as though God is calling me to work with the church and missions on a large scale.
The first of these events occurred at our Phillips University Legacy Scholars Leadership Conference this past November. Having Johnny Wray, retired Director of Week of Compassion, as a mentor at the conference was an amazing experience! He helped me to better understand the amazing opportunities Week of Compassion gives to people. My fellow PUL scholar, Danielle Cox, and I started discussing the possibility of running our own non-profit organization.
The second event that helped me realize I should do mission oriented work was going on a mission trip with my home church, First Christian Church in Wilmington, NC. The final event that happened to me this year was when Brandon Gilvin, the Associate Director of Week of Compassion, spoke to the Disciples on Campus group at Lynchburg College.
Through hearing Johnny Wray and Brandon Gilvin speak about Week of Compassion and knowing that I will be going on another mission trip this year, I feel as though God is calling me to do mission work. Through the support of my family and my church, I know I will be able to determine God's purpose for me.
