College Access: Meeting Today’s Challenges
Now, more than ever access to higher education has never been more important, but never been more difficult to access. According to a report by Forbes, between 1980 and 2020, the average price of tuition, fees, and room and board for an undergraduate degree has skyrocketed 169%. Financial aid programs at all levels are not able to cover the cost of attendance, and even the largest federal grant program, the Pell Grant, has not kept pace with inflation.
By providing sufficient scholarship assistance, we can enable greater success in college, providing support for deserving students who want to graduate with their degrees and give back to their communities.
In the end, access to education can literally change the course of one’s life.
Scholarships: Investing in Future Stories
Thanks to alumni, donors, and other supporters, the Phillips University Legacy Foundation provides renewable annual scholarships of up to $9000 annually.
These scholarships are made based on multiple factors, including students’ academic achievement as well as past, present, and potential future leadership in their academic, professional, and community environments. In addition to general scholarships, endowed and honorary scholarships are named after beloved and notable alumni, loved ones, and friends.
These scholarships make it possible to invest not only in a student’s present education in the here-and-now but also to invest in their future stories. As one Legacy Scholar put it:
“Thanks to my scholarship, I’m not just studying; I’m investing in my future. I’m so grateful for every opportunity being a Legacy Scholar brings.”
These scholarships, along with leadership development, strong peer-connections and opportunities to impact the community make up the very best of the PU Legacy Scholars program.
